‘Into The Badlands’ Gets November Premiere
AMC’s new martial arts drama just made its first move. Into The Badlands will premiere in November, it was announced at the show’s debut Comic-Con panel. No specific date revealed yet.
The brutal future America has no guns but is run by seven Barons and their personal armies.
The panel featured actors Daniel Wu, Marton Csokas, Emily Beecham, Aramis Knight and Orla Brady with creators/showrunners /EPs Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, EP/director David Dobkin, and EP/fight director Stephen Fung.
“Six episodes is a good amount,” said Gough today at the panel of AMC’s initial order of the show.”It’s like a super pilot,” he added. With Smallville alum on stage with him, Wu said he hoped that Into The Badlands would have the effect of kicking off a new round of the kung fu genre like the young Superman show helped do.
Loosely based on the Chinese tale Journey To The West, the series focuses on a ruthless, well-trained warrior named Sunny (Daniel Wu) and a young boy, M.K. (Aramis Knight), who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment. No longer a boy but not yet a man, M.K. is fearless and tests Sunny’s patience on a daily basis. Under Sunny’s tutelage, M.K. will become a martial artist of unrivaled skill.
