Nicholas Tsar is played by actor and director Robert Jack, and Susanna Herbert (Empress Alexandra) revealed that they met the day before they had to shoot their first sex scene.
“We had to get to know each other quite quickly, but the crew made everybody feel safe – and in many ways it’s easier doing sex scenes because you’ve got closed sets and you’re not in front of 40 people,” she recalled. “They’d didn’t have an intimacy coach, but they made sure that we felt comfortable and were in control of what we were willing to do and what we were happy to do. Her part as the Czarina in The Last Czars is her biggest role to date. However, it’s one she very nearly missed out on.
“I hadn’t done any acting for about 18 months and got a call from my agent about this new Netflix series,” she said. “As they’re now one of the major players in the business – and I’ve always been interested in history – I jumped at the chance.
